THE PROGRAM
Part of the Connect with Shakespeare series, Shakespeare On The Silver Screen brings you films inspired by Shakespeare's life and plays. Accompanying each film, a discussion covering the film and the interpretation of Shakespeare's texts is led by Sarah Brown, NS Artistic Director. Shakespeare On The Silver Screen 2019 will be presented in partnership with Alamo Drafthouse Cinema.

THE FILM
National Theatre Live: Macbeth (2018) | Unrated | 150m
The ruined aftermath of a bloody civil war. Ruthlessly fighting to survive, the Macbeths are propelled towards the crown by forces of elemental darkness. Shakespeare’s most intense and terrifying tragedy, directed by Rufus Norris (The Threepenny Opera, London Road), sees Rory Kinnear (Othello) and Anne-Marie Duff (Suffragette) play Macbeth and Lady Macbeth.

Each National Theatre Live broadcast is filmed in front of a live audience in the theatre, with cameras carefully positioned throughout the auditorium to ensure that cinema audiences get the ‘best seat in the house’ view of each production.
