General Work Conditions
Actors, Directors, and Management work six days a week, ordinarily with Monday as the day off. Technicians typically work Monday through Saturday. Rehearsals, Scenic, Costume, and Prop build takes place at Creighton University's theatre building (Lied Education Center for the Arts). Facilities include two rehearsal halls, costume shop, scene shop, dye room, callboards, and meeting and office spaces.

Rehearsals
There are two four-hour rehearsal periods in the workday: one in the afternoon (generally 12-4 PM) and a second in the evening (generally 6-10 PM). Technical and dress rehearsals run as late as 1 AM with appropriate adjustments made in the afternoon rehearsals.

Work Calls
Scenic and Costume shop work calls are typically from 9:00 AM - 5:30 PM with two 15 minute breaks and 30 minutes for lunch. Props and paint generally follow the scene shop schedule and crafts follow the costume shop schedule. Lighting calls run with the scene shop until focus. Once the company moves into technical rehearsals, the schedules will change.

Company:
Nebraska Shakespeare hires skilled, professional artists and artisans.
Our acting company is made up of top Equity (U/RTA contract) and non-Equity professionals chosen through auditions.

Artistic Style:
Emphasis is placed on human relationships and the life affirming values of classical theatre. Conceptual approaches range from traditional to innovative but always with the goal of creating the humanity that breathes life into the text. We seek to create productions that are visceral, immediate, playful, theatrical, and imaginative in order to create a dynamic relationship with our audience. Our use of the environmental space combines simplicity of staging with images of stunning poetic power.

Company Housing
Management and actors are housed on Creighton Campus, roughly one block from the rehearsal hall and a ten minute drive from the performance venue. Technicians are housed on the University of Nebraska campus. Housing is based on need and availability.

Company Membership Perks
Nebraska Shakespeare participates in the Equity Membership Candidate (EMC) program, allowing actors and stage management to gain points toward membership in Actor’s Equity Association. Company members receive discounts at the NS Souvenir booth; enjoy private opening night parties for each show as well as other parties, picnics, and scheduled events; and company members (and their family) are given reserved seating for performances.
