Camp Shakespeare is two weeks of fun workshops, learning about sword fighting, wearing costumes, and acting, all while gaining hands-on experience performing the works of the world's greatest playwright, William Shakespeare.
Camp Shakespeare 2017 runs June 26-July 9,
(classes are 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM M-F on UNO's campus)
with final performances on:
July 7 (Jesters), July 8 (Players), & July 9 (Apprentices)
Campers are given the tools necessary to understand Shakespeare's language, and to analyze his broad array of exciting and complex plots and characters. On the final three days of the camp, the students perform for audiences at NS’s Shakespeare on the Green.
- Work with the professional artists and educators of Nebraska Shakespeare.
- Perform this summer at Shakespeare on the Green.
- All classes include a behind-the-scenes tour of Shakespeare On The Green, discussions and workshops with company members.
- All participants receive a souvenir t-shirt.
Jesters - Recommended for Grades 3-5
Taking the first steps into a life-long love of Shakespeare, the Jesters explore plots and themes of Shakespeare plays, as well as develop an understanding of characters and story through live performance and narrative.
Apprentices - Recommended for Grades 6-8
Furthering their education of Shakespeare, the Apprentices explore the characters of Shakespeare, beginnings of textual understanding and establishing the basics of theatrical production. Creating a performance experience which brings the plots, character struggles and universal themes to life.
Players - Recommended for Grades 9-12
Diving Deeper into Shakespeare’s text and stories, the Players discover the power of his words and how it translates to live performances, exposing the students to basic training of a Classical Actor-Including vocal and physical exercises, stage movement and combat.
