Celebrate Twenty Years of Shakespeare on the Green

In honor of the 20th Anniversary, Shakespeare on the Green 2006 will feature The Taming of the Shrew, originally produced in the Festival’s first year and again for the 10th Anniversary Season.   This Festival favorite will be produced along with a play new to the NSF stage, Antony and Cleopatra.  Founding Artistic Director Cindy Melby Phaneuf will direct Shrew, which will run June 22-25 and again on July 6 & 8.  Antony and Cleopatra, directed by Associate Artistic Director D. Scott Glasser, will run June 29-July 2 and July 5, 7 & 9.

The Taming of the Shrew, set in present day Vegas,  is a raucous comedy. Shakespeare's classic “battle of the sexes” leaves you amazed at the power of love and wondering, just who has tamed whom?

Set in antiquity, Antony and Cleopatra is an epic portrayal of love.  Driven by his passion for Cleopatra, Mark Antony sacrifices his career, his friends, and his standing as the champion of Rome to be with his Egyptian Queen.  Together they must face the wrath of the country he
left behind.

New this year, Shakespeare on the Green is partnering with Panera Bread who will be our exclusive food and drink provider. Fabulous theatre in a fabulous outdoor setting with fabulous food.

Shakespeare on the Green is presented each summer in cooperation with Creighton University, the University of Nebraska at Omaha and the City of Omaha.  Located just south of UNO's Bell Tower "in the Park," Shakespeare on the Green is free public theatre, made possible through contributions.
