9th Annual Anne Dittrick Sonnet Writing Contest

February 17, 2006 -- Nebraska Shakespeare is accepting submissions for its 9th Annual Anne Dittrick Sonnet Writing Contest.  This year marks the addition of an adult/postsecondary division, which will run alongside the Festival’s existing high school division.  NSF is proud to announce U.S. Poet Laureate Ted Kooser will be the judge for the adult division.

High School Division Guidelines

The contest is open to all high school students.  Interested students should contact their English teachers.  Deadline for submission is Friday, March 31, 2006.

Nebraska Shakespeare and the Omaha Public Library are sponsoring Sonnet Writing Workshops:
  • Tuesday, February 21 from 2-4 pm at the Florence Branch, 2920 Bondessen Street
  • Saturday, March 25 from 2-4 pm at the Florence Branch, 2920 Bondessen Street
  • Wednesday, March 29 from 4-6 pm at the A V Sorenson Branch, 4808 Cass Street

Contest winners and their teachers will receive a Shakespeare Gift Pack.  First Place winner receives a scholarship to Camp Shakespeare 2006, and his or her teacher receives Reserved Seating at the 2006 Festival.  Winning entry will be published in the souvenir program for Shakespeare on the Green 2006.

Adult Division Guidelines

Entries for the Adult Division must be postmarked, faxed, or emailed no later than Wednesday, March 20, 2006.

First prize in the Adult Division will receive $100 and all contest winners will receive a Shakespeare Gift Pack.  The winning entry will be published in the souvenir program for Shakespeare on the Green 2006.


Winners of both divisions will be informed on April 10, 2006.  The Awards Ceremony will be held on April 22 at 2 pm at the Omaha Public Library Main Branch at 215 South 15 Street.
