Nebraska Shakespeare Produces Macbeth
for 23rd Season of Shakespeare on the Green

(OMAHA, Neb., June 15, 2009) – Nebraska Shakespeare is producing Shakespeare's Macbeth at this summer’s Shakespeare on the Green 2009. The play will run in Elmwood Park for two weeks, June 18-21 and 24-28, 2009. Nebraska Shakespeare is anticipating record attendance for this very popular production. In spite of the economic challenges, we are pleased that our production is free to the many thousands of supporters that come to a family-friendly magical experience. Many arrive early with their picnic baskets, blankets and lawn chairs to get a good spot “on the green.”

Activities start at 6 p.m. at the Towne Square – live music, concessions, souvenirs, and Shakespearience! Guests can attend the nightly preshow seminars where artists and scholars gather to meet the audience and discuss Shakespeare in general and Macbeth’s production in particular at 6:30 p.m. Then for the treat of the night, Macbeth begins at 8 p.m.

Director D. Scott Glasser calls Macbeth “a tale of horror about wishing for complete power, and what happens when you do anything to get what you wish for.” Though he’s setting the play in the medieval/early Renaissance period, Glasser says the production will have “a contemporary immediacy to its pacing, action, and acting, referencing the intense presence of violence in our culture and the world.”

In its 23-year history, The Festival has gained national recognition for its consistently high-quality productions, the beauty of the Elmwood Park setting, and for steadily growing, enthusiastic audiences. Shakespeare on the Green has become a summer tradition for the people of Omaha and the Great Plains region, drawing as many as 35,000 people each season.

The Second Annual Will’s Best Friend Contest will be Sunday, June 21, at 5:30 p.m. and our corporate sponsor, PETCO, will have lots of treats to give the entrants.
