A special 20th Anniversary Gala was held May 11, 2006 at Joslyn Art Museum.
The evening’s entertainment featured a parade of local celebrities, business and community leaders portraying famous Shakespearean characters from the first twenty years of Shakespeare on the Green. Nebraska Shakespeare Co-Chairman Michael Yanney is already slated to play the love-struck Roman ruler, Marc Antony and Co-Chairman Harold “Andy” Andersen will play England’s great champion, Henry V. Dana Gioia, Chairman of the National Endowment for the Arts, will attend the annual fundraiser for the Nebraska Shakespeare Festival. A gifted poet and a great devotee of the works of William Shakespeare, Chairman Gioia will be in town to help celebrate the 20th Anniversary of Shakespeare on the Green, the free outdoor professional theatre festival produced each summer in Elmwood Park.
